The Dynamic Colors of Lingling Lansang

Her bubbly presence fills the air! Her laughter is contagious. Her positivity is infectious. Her kindness is touching. She is the epitome of the expression, “A BUNDLE OF JOY!”

But beneath her soft, comfy and marshmallow surface, LINGLING IS A FORMIDABLE FORCE TO CONTEND WITH.

Let’s get up close and personal with one of the champions of sustainable development, my dear friend, Lingling Lansang.

The Dynamic Colors of Lingling!

Lingling started our her career as a teacher. She taught kids ages 8 – 11 years old. Although it seemed so long ago, the experience still remains very close to her heart because she felt that it gave her a very special opportunity to help mold her students, not only academically but more importantly, their values and outlook in life.

I loved being a teacher – I became a friend and a mentor to them. Kids that age really listen to their teachers so, I was able to teach them the values of kindness, having a positive outlook in life, getting along with others, taking care of one’s self and valuing family.

Currently serving as the Assistant Vice President for the Scholarship Program at SM Foundation, Lingling helps an average of 1200 students at a time to help them achieve their dreams.

Lingling, the servant-leader with the beloved SM Scholars!

Never did I think that I will be handling the scholarship program of one of the biggest companies in the country. My work allows me to help thousands of youth improve their lives through the gift of education.

Being with the scholars throughout their college education gives Lingling the chance to get to know them personally. She becomes part of their dreams, pain, tears, hardships, fears and triumphs.

It is very touching to see them graduate, even top the board exams despite their challenges. I am blessed that through the work that I have, I am able to positively affect the lives of these young men and women. Being part of their journey in finishing their studies is always a feel-good experience.

Although she has already become a teacher and now the “ate” to the SM scholars, Lingling continuous to hone her skills and learn from the no less than the best.

My career mentor is no other than my boss for over a decade now, Ms. Carmen Linda Atayde, the Executive Director of the Education Program for SM Foundation.

Enumerating all the things I learned and continue to learn from her will take forever. She has not only taught me things about work, but more importantly, she allows me to grow in my career by giving me the opportunities to exercise my gifts.

With more than 15 years of experience, service and leadership in the field of education, Lingling is now a respected social development professional.

Education is one great equalizer. It has the power to level the playing field. I want quality education to be accessible to all Filipinos.

If she were given all the resources to change the country, Lingling would devote herself in improving the quality and accessibility of education in the Philippines from pre-school to college. She believes that it is every Filipino’s right to be educated.

Lingling believes that family is everything. She is who she is today because of her family. And to Lingling, she has been blessed with two families: Her SM Foundation Family and Her Family at Home.

Our parents raised us to be “persons for others.”

Since she was still a little girl, Lingling would watch her parents serve others through their spiritual community, Ang Ligaya ng Panginoon, of which they have been members for 30 years now.

My mother is an active volunteer for the group of St. Mother Teresa. Exposing us to these activities helped us have the spirit of generosity.

There is a big buzz about Millennials and Gen Z in the workforce. In her role as Asst. Vice President, Lingling has the opportunity to guide the younger generation as they start out their career. She follows the example of her mentor in being a good example of servant leadership.

The Millennials and Gen Z are very empowered, being born in the age of technology, they have easy access to information – social media is very active. They can use all of this and their talents to make a better place for everyone to live in – this is everyone’s responsibility.

Last but not the least, Lingling is one of the best friend anyone could be blessed with. She will lovingly walk with you through the ups and downs of life’s journeys. And she will always be someone you could have the best laugh with!

Here we are together!

My secret is that I always try to look at the glass half-filled. I keep myself busy with work and spend quality time with family. Lastly, I am always thankful for the blessings and the even the challenges that I receive for these make me who I am today!
